Research on Parent Management Training is summarized in these books (noted for Professionals) We have evaluated the acceptability of different treatments and determinants and predictors of acceptability. Acceptability of treatment procedures (among clients, parents, teachers, therapists) has direct implications for remaining in and adhering to treatment among clients and recommending and using treatment among professionals. Finally, we have conducted studies on treatment acceptability or the extent to which treatment techniques seem reasonable and appropriate for the clinical problems to which they are applied.Our work began as crassly empirical by merely identifying predictors until we developed and tested a model of why individuals drop out, as noted later. Third, we have studied participation in treatment including who drops out of treatment and why, who cancels and does not show up for treatment sessions, and who among dropouts benefits from treatment.Also, we have looked at processes that emerge during treatment (e.g., parent-therapist and child-therapist alliances, parent perceptions of treatment), mediators of these processes, and how to explain therapeutic change. Our group has focused on current and past child, parent, family, and contextual factors that influence therapeutic change in the treatment of children. Second, I have been interested in moderators and treatment processes.Work with children and adolescents focused on interventions derived from applied behavior analysis and cognitive-behavioral treatment to reduce severe aggressive and antisocial behavior. Work with adults focused on imagery-based treatment (covert modeling or imagined rehearsal) to develop social skills and reduce anxiety. First, much of my work has consisted of treatment outcome studies and has included children, adolescents, and adults.Journal of Pediatric Psychology Oxford University Press Intervention research has dominated my work and is illustrated by four programs of research. Technology appealed to all Spanish-speaking mothers, with younger mothers showing greater proficiency. Conclusions Well-designed, supported technology holds promise for enhancing psychological interventions. Despite technological “glitches,” mothers expressed moderately high optimism, appreciation for logic, and confidence in both interventions and rated the PDA-based program favorably. Mothers also rated optimism, logic, and confidence in the intervention and technology. Results Both groups demonstrated significant positive change over time on all psychosocial measures. Participants completed the Social Problem-Solving Inventory-Revised, Beck Depression Inventory-II, Profile of Mood States, and Impact of Event Scale-Revised pre-, post-treatment, and 3 months after completion of the intervention. Objectives To evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of a handheld personal digital assistant (PDA)-based supplement for maternal Problem-Solving Skills Training (PSST) and to explore Spanish-speaking mothers’ experiences with it. Methods Mothers (n = 197) of children with newly diagnosed cancer were randomized to traditional PSST or PSST + PDA 8-week programs.
